Lip Service Wallpapers

By Mich Fisher | March 21, 2008

How could I resist the opportunity to jump to my Wacom and channel my creative id into blending kick-ass styles from the Lip Service Spring 2008 collection with some groovy graphics and photos to make themed wallpapers for the desktops of all the Lippy junkies out there (myself included … my Mac sports Psycho Circus)? All wallpapers are available to download in 3 sizes at the Lip Service blog.

First is my favorite group in the current collection, Psycho Circus Act III.

To create the scene, I used fabric swatches from the group for the tent material, created fire and tail effects to enhance the original photos of the model, added some other minor effects, and drew banner and sign graphics with a circus feel.

Next up is Punk and Disorderly, one of Lip Service’s long-standing classics.

Here, I used a bar scene to give Katia a suitable backdrop and integrated the two models with a bar door for a fun pseudo-advert (one of my favorite hobbies).

Rockabilly Rumble was more of a graphic challenge, similar to Psycho Circus.

I envisioned 50’s snapshots with the model bursting out from their confines. Using some stock as well as my own photography, I gave the Rockabilly model, Monica Renee, backdrops which mirror the edgy retro feel of that style group. One fun side-note: Lippy’s Booze & Pool is being played by Johnny’s, a kick-ass HB rockabilly punk dive we love.

The last wallpaper is for the Stretch Fuck’n Twill group, one which crosses into several styles but is all dark.

The designers gave me a lot to work with by having Mary Jane’s pose with the battle axe. I pictured her as a dark sentry, guarding the grave of some evil wizard, cursed king, or some such. Yes, I have an overactive imagination, but … that’s what they pay me for, so what the hell. The only challenge to creating the graphic was finding a graveyard photo spooky and foreboding enough and creating ample room for three Mary Janes.

Gloji Holiday 2007 Animation

Gloji Xmas 2007 animation still

Animations are, by far, most fun collaboration we do. After we storyboard the general action and decide the overall style of the animation and its elements, Mich gets to play with the Wacom and draw the pieces Jim will bring to life with his magic Flash fingers. Animations are, moreso than any of the other professional work we do, a true collaboration and balance of our skills.

This piece wass a holiday animation introduction to the Gloji site. We used music created by the client and expanded upon their initial suggestions in keeping with the fun, whimsical mood. Mich drew the pieces by hand and gave them over to Jim, who imbued them with motion and personality by having the baby bottles jump and spin.

Cherie Bombe Covers - Little Albie’s Bad Day and Everything Burns

By Mich Fisher | October 16, 2007

Cherie Bombe cover - Little Albie’s Bad Day

Cherie Bombe cover - Everything Burns

Now that I’ve begun writing the Cherie Bombe web comic and storyboarding the action and visuals, the idea of creating printed covers (whether or not we release print versions of the story) has been impossible to resist. The medium of comic book covers is so freeing and allows for nuanced mood work, lighting effects, and iconic images. To create these, I utilized photos from our action shoots and let my creative side run amok over my Wacom tablet.

Glasgow Kiss at the Vortex Poster

By Mich Fisher | September 25, 2007

Graphic Design: Glasgow Kiss at the Vortex

One of mine and Jim’s favorite side projects in development is Cherie Bombe, a web comic about an aging super-spy who moonlights as the lead singer of glam punk band, Glasgow Kiss. This is a fictional concert poster created for the comic of a night of all-girl punk at Cherie’s favorite fictional club, Vortex. I drew the artwork and designed the imaginary band logos, using one of Chrissie Hynde’s rumored 1st choices for The Damned’s name as one of the groups.

Arches

By Mich Fisher | June 6, 2007

Graphic Design: Arches

This surreal arch graphic was created for the header of my old home page and portfolio. It is comprised of photos I have taken and architectural elements edited through various filters and colorizing tools to give the finished piece a more dream-like appearance.

Smirky the GOP Clown: #3 Smirky Has a Guest

Naked Patriotism, my comic strip series on the original Plastic Hassle site, had a spin-off strip, Smirky the GOP Clown. It, of course, reflected my progressive political leanings and sarcastic attitude. In this episode, Donald Rumsfeld (also known as Mr. Diplomacy) pays a visit to crow over the victory in Iraq and gets a nasty surprise as a result of his lack of tact.

CLIENT | Plastic Hassle

SUMMARY | Jason S. is one of members of the original Plastic Hassle crew, and he put together a Jack Kerouac tribute piece when the On the Road scroll started touring the country. Jason wrote it and laid down the vocals and I added the trumpet licks in-between stanzas. I created this piece for the web page that we put up to distribute the track.
