Redefining and re-inspiring erotic and arts cultures by bring them together, Studio Servitù has become LA’s premiere high-end studio and creative space. With events as diverse as the reknowned Dr. Sketchy’s, fetish parties, and gallery benefits, the original downtown studio has been a talked about destination in web magazines, blogs, and social networks. It has hosted shoots by such notable artists as Lithium Picnic, Steve Dietgoedde, Holly Randall, and Ellen Stagg and popular alt models like Angela Ryan and Skin Diamond, as well as everything from R&B videos to mainstream studio films.

Now, with a massive expansion, Servitù is poised to make an even bigger impact on underground culture.

Under a year ago, Studio Servitù opened its doors and Los Angeles gained an elegant space where the finest of the erotica, fetish, alt, and mainstream art and film communities could come together for unique and unforgettable occasions. It is a place where everyone can leave work behind and enjoy each others’ ideas. Servitù events are much-anticipated, engaging atmosphere and company creating memorable nights recalled long after the event has passed.

After a brief transition to a new space, Studio Servitù is prepared for a celebrity red carpet Grand Re-opening on April 23, 2011. Guests should expect the same special ambiance of the original, only on a much larger scale. In a 3700 square foot venue with two stages, full projection, and surround sound, Servitù can accommodate photo and video shoots, gallery installations, events, parties, classes, and seminars. The expansive space offers a sophisticated backdrop with clean, open lines for striking visuals. Huge windows surround the studio, providing natural light and panoramic views of downtown Los Angeles. Rich black floors against boldly-striped or crisp white walls, accented with exposed pillars and pipes, are the ideal atmosphere for events, parties, and classes.

To accommodate larger events and shoots, Servitù has added dramatically to its amenities. The new studio includes a large wet bar space, overnight guest quarters, public and private restrooms,  private freight elevator and loading dock for easy access. Professional lighting equipment is available on a rental basis, as are other critical services.

Los Angeles had been waiting for a studio like Servitù before its first opening; it now has an even better destination to look forward to debuting at its April 23rd Grand Re-opening. Erotica has found its home right in the heart of downtown.

Principals’ bios:

Studio Servitù is co-owned by Miss Crash and Ms. Jane Jett, whose breath-taking hook suspension dance performances onstage with Jane’s Addiction have earned them coverage in Rolling Stone Magazine and LA Weekly. Well-known figures in the erotica and arts communities, as extreme performers and models, they have created Servitù as a space for greater collaboration between adult and mainstream creators.

Crash has been seen all over the world, from the Sunset Strip to London’s Torture Garden and beyond. Formally titled “the Queen of Suspension” after setting a world record for Body Suspension in 2008, her images and performances have been widely published. Her unique combination of classic dance, burlesque, old-school side show, and body suspension, not only pushes her own personal boundaries, but that of her audience, opening their eyes to a vision of the bizarre they can easily relate to and elusive fantasy to fire their imagination. Her unique talent has made her a new modern breed of crossover performer.

Ms. Jane Jett, along with appearances as a hook suspension artist in concerts, fetish balls and conventions throughout the US, has been a featured model for clothing companies, magazines, and  websites. She is a true fetishist and specialist in pain application and management, as well as a Master of Psychology. With mind and body meshed together so beautifully, Jane stands at the forefront of redefining the edges of modern sexuality.

ORIGINALLY PUBLISHED IN LIP SERVICE WEB MAGAZINE

Do you sometimes really want to smash the living hell out of your computer with a badass 20 lb sledgehammer? Would love to stomp your printer until it’s nothing but chards on the floor? Feel like throwing plates and glass as hard as you can at the wall, just to hear them shatter to bits? Crash and Jane at Studio Servitù figured as much and devised a delightfully angst-purging night of mass destruction, Je M’en Fous (which I will now assume means “breaking stuff rocks!”).

SPRING IN LA’S CREATIVE UNDERGROUND

ORIGINALLY PUBLISHED IN LIP SERVICE WEB MAGAZINE

Let’s face facts. It’s often a pain in the ass to live an independent artists’ existence. Sacrifices, though, usually balance out with the perks, at least enough for otherwise-mainly-rational adults to stay out of the cubicles and keep at it. Sometimes, those perks tilt the scales so much they make even the most arduous sacrifices for the life of a full-time creative degenerate seem minute.

This spring is one of those times.

SINGING WITH PORN STARS: LA’S NAUGHTIEST INSTITUTION

ORIGINALLY PUBLISHED IN LIP SERVICE WEB MAGAZINE

Let me tell you a little LA Story …

Once upon a naughty time, a few adult performers stopped by a little, local hole-in-the-wall joint to unwind after work. It happened to be karaoke night, and they had a great time singing and cutting loose. They had so much fun, they came back the next week with a few more friends, and the next week, and the next …

SEX IN THE CROSSHAIRS: THE DANGEROUS STATE OF SMUT

ORIGINALLY PUBLISHED IN LIP SERVICE WEB MAGAZINE

In recent months, the professional world of sin and debauchery has seen major challenges from its not-so-naughty counterparts in the mainstream. As our culture moves toward a more free-wheeling online Wild West of sex, the aspiring censors of all things fun have lined up to charge in with guns blazing in a misguided attempt to ‘clean up Dodge’ and make all we see ‘safe’ (or at least SFW). On several fronts, creators of erotic works now face the possibility of rather dire consequences in their legal, professional, and economic lives.

Every so often, we at the ‘zine like to give our stage over to an artist whose work we love, to share their brainchildren and thoughts with all of you.
